New Zealand won the U20 World Championship yesterday knocking over England U20 by 64-10 in pretty much one way traffic.
The NZ team showed pace power and skill to run in 10 tries to England’s 3.
They went in at halftime leading 40-7 and you feared for the second half.
It was a bit better with the bench boosting the England ranks to limit the last 40 to a deficit of 24-10.
NZ were better in just about every phase of play which is frightening as this is a very good England side. They were hampered by the loss to injuries as well as the 5 that Eddie Jones took to face the Pumas – but they are still amongst the best young players in the country.
England’s tackling, especially in the first half lacked conviction and handling errors led to at least 3 tries.
A number of the NZ team will almost certainly end up wearing an All Black shirt – one in particular is Asafo Aumua – a 17 stone hooker who scored three tries and was easily the man of the match.
Asafo can offload like SBW and is as powerful as Billy Vunipola!
He’s with the Hurricanes and if Codie Taylor gets injured he would not look out of place on the bench.
The England players will have better days but scarily so will the New Zealanders I think.
ITV4 did a good job covering the latter stages of the tournament – the good news is that they will be showing the Women’s World Cup from Ireland starting on August 9th. And you thought you’d have to wait until September (like Carole King) for some more rugby after the Lions tour!
