Last night, as expected, London Irish returned to the Premiership with a 55-48 win over Yorkshire Carnegie in the home game at the Madejski stadium.
The aggregate score was 84-66 over both legs.
It was an entertaining game and I watched it flicking over to the first ODI (England beat SA) when the game stopped for the TMO and goal kicks (so I saw quite a bit of the cricket)
The high scores underline that the Irish will need to improve their defence otherwise they are likely to struggle in the unforgiving pressure of the top division.
Yorkshire Carnegie demonstrated that they can also be something of a handful and may even ensure that the Pat Lam’s Bristol galacticos do not have it all their own way in the Championship next season.
