I only managed 5 out of 7 for my Super Rugby predictions this week – which is the same as last time out in R7 and reduces my % a bit.
I now have 55 out of 63 or 87% – which is the second drop in a row.
The ones I cocked up were the Brumbies going down to the Rebels (19-17) and the Stormers losing their unbeaten run this year losing out to the Lions by 16-29.
Rebel Lopeti Timani got a yellow card in the 17th minute – he’s since been cited (and banned for 4 weeks) – so it could easily have been red – no doubt the Brumbies will be somewhat miffed that he was back playing 10 minutes later –
Predictably the Sunwolves got a stuffing in Christchurch (50-3) meaning their win % in Super Rugby is now under 9%. Ominously for Warren Gatland Kieran Read returned to Super Rugby.
No doubt the Sunwolves ranks will be bolstered by some of the players who are going to be dumped when the final Super Rugby cull is actually decided. Of course that depends on them wanting to move their families to Japan next year.
The game between the Blues and Hurricanes was far less exciting than it had promised with a lot of errors. SBW mostly had a game to forget although both Beauden Barrett for the Canes and the Blues Melani Nanai were worth the price of a ticket on their own.
Beauden also picked up another yellow card but his form looks ominous with the Lions tour racing towards us. His brother’s pretty sharp too.
The game was lively in the stands too where a fight broke out –
Since much of the game was dull by NZ Super Rugby standards it’s probably not that surprising that they decided to entertain themselves.
