Super Rugby R8

Round 8 for Super Rugby this week with the threat of the axe still hanging over 3 teams, despite the Sanzaar announcement last Sunday.

Plenty of players will be concerned about contracts – and not just those in the threatened teams.

Earlier today Michael Cheika commented on the future of Dane Haylett-Petty if the Western Force are chopped –

Taking into account the “natural 15 per cent attrition (rate) of players leaving, retiring, not being re-signed in a normal year”, Cheika estimated only a handful of players not being accommodated by the NSW Waratahs, Queensland Reds, Brumbies and either the Force or Rebels, depending on who survives.

The national coach promised those players left in contract limbo following the ARU’s axing of the Force or Rebels would have their futures settled swiftly.

Positive words – hopefully he’ll be proved right.

So – Round 8 –

Crusaders to put the Sunwolves to the sword – maybe by as many as 50

The Reds, with Quade Cooper back, will knock over the doomed Kings by around 20

The all NZ affair with the Canes at the Blues should be interesting – especially with ‘no-logo’ SBW starting. The Hurricanes by no more than 15 I think

Rebels won’t be able to hold off the Brumbies now that the ACT side have escaped the concern about their future. Brumbies, but by less than 10

Cheetahs will be run over by the Chiefs despite being at home – possibly by as many as 20

The Stormers remain unbeaten – unsurprisingly looking at who they’ve played so far – but winning is a habit and they should just about sort out the Lions – but by fewer than 10.

The Jaguares have surprised everyone so far and have 19 points – but the Bulls (with only 6 points so far) at home is a tough one and they will go down fighting. Bulls by13.

Will be interesting to see how the teams with an uncertain future react this week.

Lots on TV to enjoy guys!
