Ashes to Ashton

It’s not a done deal but it will take some miracle for Bristol to still be in the Premiership next season.

Last night they went down to Gloucester at home by 14-32.

And before you check yesterday’s post – yes, I had Bristol down to win! So why you’re listening to me about rugby I am at a loss to explain.

Bristol now have just 4 more games to try and overtake Worcester who are 7 points and a big points’ difference ahead of them.

So technically they have 20 points available.

That is until you look at their fixtures between now and the end of season.

The next three are – Exeter away, Wasps at home and then Saracens away – the top three sides currently (and likely to stay there).

Bristol’s final game is against the Falcons – and that’s not easy as Dean Richard’s team have been showing good form and have accumulated 36 points c.f. Bristol’s 17.

The fact is it is likely to be all over long before Newcastle pitch up at Ashton Gate on the 6th May.

It’s not all bad news – Bristol’s high profile recruitment for 2017/8 means that they are odds on to bounce back – especially as the disruptive play-off system in the Championship has been dumped from next year.
