For the last few weeks I’ve been banging on about how you just have to pick all home wins in the Premiership to do okay.
Shows you what I know eh?
This weekend there were 5 away wins and just the one homer (no relation to bath fullback) for the Warriors.
Luckily I ignored my own advice and predicted 3 of the away wins – so I ended up not too badly with 4 from 6.
The two I buggered up were Saints knocking over Sale and Gloucester losing to Quins.
Well into the last 10 minutes I thought I had the one at Kingsholm right – the home side were ahead by 12. Cue a cock up with Gloucester shipping 15 points in the last 7 minutes and Harlequins sailing home.
Wins for Saints and Quins has shot them back into contention for the play-offs, although it very much looks like they will join Bath and the Tigers in fighting for the 4th spot. It is hard to see anyone catching Wasps, Chiefs or Saracens – especially now that the international players will be back for the next round on the 24/25/26th March.
At the other end Bristol suffered a heavy defeat to relegation rivals Worcester and it now looks increasingly that Bristol are destined to be heading back down to the Championship in May
When making the predictions on Friday I mentioned that Billy Vuniploa was starting for Saracens up at Newcastle – he lasted 72 minutes and has been included in the squad for Saturday’s Calcutta Cup.
I don’t think he’ll start but it would be a surprise if he wasn’t on the bench.
The full training squad is –
Forwards: Jack Clifford (Harlequins), Dan Cole (Leicester), Jamie George (Saracens), Teimana Harrison (Northampton), Dylan Hartley (Northampton), James Haskell (Wasps), Nathan Hughes (Wasps), Maro Itoje (Saracens), Joe Launchbury (Wasps), Courtney Lawes (Northampton), Joe Marler (Harlequins), Kyle Sinckler (Harlequins), Billy Vunipola (Saracens), Mako Vunipola (Saracens), Mike Williams (Leicester), Tom Wood (Northampton).
Backs: Mike Brown (Harlequins), Danny Care (Harlequins), Elliot Daly (Wasps), Owen Farrell (Saracens), George Ford (Bath), Jonathan Joseph (Bath), Alex Lozowksi (Saracens), Jonny May (Gloucester), Jack Nowell (Exeter), Henry Slade (Exeter), Ben Te’o (Worcester), Anthony Watson (Bath), Marland Yarde (Harlequins), Ben Youngs (Leicester).
No great surprises and it is good to see Anthony Watson back too.
