I managed to get 8 out of my 9 Super Rugby predictions right in Round Two.
To be fair several like the Hurricanes, the Lions and the Bulls were fairly straight forward calls, but the one I cocked up was at least close.
The Crusaders came back from a massive deficit of 21 points and won at the death against the Highlanders
Helped by the fact that the home team were down to 14 at the time with Fekitoa in the bin.
The only two sides to have won both their opening games with 2 bonus points are the Hurricanes and the Chiefs – so they both have 10 points.
You’d think that they would be first and second in the table wouldn’t you? You’d be wrong!
The Chiefs are only 5th – behind the Lions (9 points), Stormers (8 points) and the Force (5 points)
How the fuck does that work?
The Force are ahead having lost one game, have only 1 bonus point (losing) and with half the points of the Chiefs.
It has been suggested that the convoluted format needs to change – you think?
The game at the Highlanders was well worth watching – as was the demolition of the Sunwolves by the Hurricanes.
The matches are good but the complex format is badly flawed.
I think it was Sean Fitzpatrick who suggested going back to the original Super 12, with a second tier tournament running in parallel for the expansion was a good way to solve the problem
Makes a lot of sense to me and would help with travel, player welfare and would create a level playing field.
It might even appeal more to the TV companies too!
