Full House

Although my Premiership Predictions were well below par (see ‘Ooops’ below’) I did manage to get both of the final two Rugby Championship results right.

That gives me 100% for the tournament – calling correctly for all 12 games. I was even close with the scores for most – although the All Blacks rather let me down by running up cricket scores in every match.

The stats for NZ are staggering –

Scored 38 tries in 6 games – 5 more than the number scored by the other three teams combined

Conceded 5 tries – that’s just one every 96 minutes

The Championship yielded 70 tries – just 7% of them scored against the ABs – compared with Australia (23%) SA (31%) and Argentina (39%)

NZ only scored 6 penalties (they preferred tries) – Australia 12; Argentina 18 and SA 19

Unsurprisingly Beauden Barrett topped the points with 81

The average score line for the ABs was 44-14 – all the others were negative – Argentina 22-36, Australia 20-25 and SA 20-30

The All Blacks average just 12 missed tackles a game. Well under their competitors with Argentina, South Africa and Australia averaging 20, 23, and 25 respectively. Conversely, the All Blacks forced a whopping 30 missed tackles a game.

If this sounds like an ad for New Zealand rugby – it’s not surprising when they scored a maximum 30 points with 6 bonus point wins.

There is much to do for the other international teams if they are to stop the ABs winning a third successive World Cup.

It can start with the November tests and the 2017 British and Irish Lions – at least I hope so!
